Description
Company Overview
SELMA is the leading Education Operating System for training providers, higher education, and vocational education across Australia and New Zealand.
Our web-based platform is trusted by education providers who need fast, intuitive, and highly automated tools to run their operations.
We're investing heavily in AI, and we're on the hunt for a superstar developer who's genuinely excited to help build that future with us.
Role Overview
We're hiring a full-time, on-site Full Stack Developer to join our young, dynamic team in Auckland, New Zealand.
You'll spend your time building new AI-powered features and levelling up our core platform: back-end systems, front-end interfaces, and database architecture.
You'll own customer-driven projects end to end and see your work go live fast, with real impact for real customers from day one.
This role is for someone hungry to sink their teeth into something new, who thrives on solving hard problems, and who's already comfortable using AI-assisted development tools to move fast without cutting corners (we use Claude Code daily across the team).
Key Responsibilities
Design, build, and ship AI-powered features (leveraging AWS Bedrock, LLM APIs, and agentic workflows) that solve real problems for education providers.Develop and maintain back-end systems and APIs.Design and implement front-end user interfaces.Manage and optimise database structures and query performance.Strengthen application security and champion safe development practices.Own customer-led projects from concept through to release.
Required Skills and Experience
Strong understanding of AI infrastructure and architecture (AWS Bedrock, LLM APIs, agentic/tool-use patterns), with hands-on daily experience using Claude Code or a comparable AI-assisted development workflow.Solid grounding in Object-Oriented Programming and a modern PHP framework, minimum 2 years commercial experience.Comfortable working across the full stack: relational databases (MySQL/MariaDB), caching layers (Redis), and JavaScript on the front end.Experience designing and consuming REST/JSON APIs.Familiarity with Docker and container-based deployment.Working knowledge of AWS (ECS, S3, RDS, CloudWatch).
Qualifications and Attributes
A can-do attitude and a genuine drive to innovate, not just execute.A collaborative team player with excellent communication skills.Strong attention to detail, ensuring clean, efficient, and secure code.A professional approach to safeguarding user data and privacy.Genuine curiosity about AI tooling and a fast-learner mindset: you pick up new frameworks and workflows quickly and run with them.Ability to engage with stakeholders to deliver features that enhance the user experience.Solid project management skills, including release cycle management and customer project oversight.A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field is preferred.
Who We're Looking For
We want someone who's ready to work hard, move fast, and make a real mark.
You're excited by the idea of building AI features into a real product used by hundreds of education providers, not just tinkering with AI on the side.
You want to see your code live in production, driving real impact, not sitting in a backlog.
If you're a hard-working, ambitious developer who's fluent with modern AI-assisted coding tools and wants to grow fast inside a young, dynamic team, we'd love to hear from you.
