This position reports to: Global Portfolio R&D Manager - Automation & Electrical __ The work model for the role is: hybrid / Key Responsibilities In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute to ABB’s success with technology, software, product, and system development. Each day, you will identify and implement innovative solutions to relevant problems. You will also showcase your expertise by providing ideas and by being able to work both independently and as a part of a Research & Development (R&D) team. This role is contributing to Technology and Innovation within our Business Area Automation, Division Energy Industries (AUEN). We innovate, develop, enhance and maintain products for our system solution business. As part of Autonomy, Industry 4.0 (I4.0), Digital Data Exchange and Asset Administration Shell (AAS; as one representation of Digital Data Exchange) are evolving as key concepts for future engineering and as a basis for new business opportunities in AUEN. Customers (end-customers and EPC’s) have increased activities, expertise and expectations within this field and ABB AUEN is positioned as a solid supplier and integrator. You will be mainly accountable for: Working as an independent and reliable contributor in R&D projects with limited supervision.Performing various tasks within Industry 4.0 technologies, particularly developing AAS and OPC UA components across the full value chain — from concept building and requirements gathering to design, implementation, integration, testing, technology transfer, maintenance and operations.Understanding and applying applicable processes, standards, guidelines, and requirements, including architectural and design constraints.Contributing to the achievement of assigned targets (quality, time, scope, cost) and raising and addressing risks. Qualifications For The Role You are passionate about and have strong software development skills in C# and Java, with experience in Python and JavaScriptYou have established skills in developing scalable, maintainable software solutions and are comfortable working across the full software lifecycle (design, implementation, testing, deployment), using tools such as RESTful APIs, data formats (JSON, XML) and modern version control (Git)Experience with Industry 4.0 standards and protocols such as Asset Administration Shell (AAS), OPC UA and MQTT is highly valued, including data modelling using AAS and OPC UA, as well as IoT platforms and industrial communication protocolsFamiliarity with message brokers (e.g., RabbitMQ) and databases is an advantageYou are comfortable with Linux environments, containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes), CI/CD practices (e.g., Argo CD) and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP)Experience with Industrial Automation and OT/IT convergence is beneficialYou are a collaborative problem-solver with strong analytical and troubleshooting skillsDegree (B.
