Summary

A founding backend engineer is sought to help build the core infrastructure of an early-stage technology platform combining a marketplace, business operating tools, and a large data layer. The role offers substantial technical ownership and the opportunity to design scalable systems at the intersection of software, data, and AI.

Highlights

Founding-level ownership, the opportunity to shape core backend architecture from an early stage, work on AI-enabled products, and significant influence over a growing data-driven platform.

Description

Matchii is the new way to hire agencies: matched, not browsed. Hiring an agency today is a slog: 20+ quotes, 40+ hours of vetting, and a gut-feel pick that's wrong about half the time. Matchii makes it feel like booking the perfect flight; describe what you need, the right team appears, work begins. Human, AI-native, or hybrid. We match. We back the outcome. Behind the scenes, it's two products on one platform: a matched marketplace for the people doing the hiring and an operating system that the agencies run their whole business on. Underneath both is a data layer, the largest dataset of real services pricing and outcomes anywhere, that makes every match smarter than the last. The timing is the whole point. The $500B+ global agency services market is old and broken, and AI just blew the supply side open: 100+ AI-native services launched in the past year alone, with no platform connecting buyers to the new shape of supply. That gap has been open for years. We're building the company that fills it. Role summary You'll build and operate Matchii's backend: APIs, data layer, streaming pipelines, agent orchestration, and the observability that keeps production trustworthy. We use Go as our primary service language, with room for Java, Python, or TypeScript where it fits tooling, ML, or platform work. What you'll do • Design and implement backend services and APIs in Go (and other languages as appropriate) • Model and query data in PostgreSQL; write efficient SQL and tune queries for production workloads • Use Redis for caching, sessions, queues, or rate limiting as needed • Build and maintain agent harness infrastructure — tool routing, state, memory, safety boundaries, and LLM integration • Own observability: metrics, logs, dashboards, and alerts with tools like Prometheus, Grafana, Metabase, OpenTelemetry, Loki, and/or Sentry • Implement middleware, auth, and API contracts; partner with frontend on CORS and integrated testing • Explore Text-to-SQL or structured query generation where it improves internal tools or agent capabilities What we're looking for Required • 3+ years backend engineering in at least one of: Go, Java, Python, or TypeScript (Node) • Strong PostgreSQL experience — schema design, migrations, indexing, and hand-written SQL • Working knowledge of Redis and when to use it vs. the primary database • Experience shipping services consumed by web/mobile clients • Understanding of CORS, HTTP middleware, auth, and API versioning • Experience with integrated testing (API tests, contract tests, staging environments with frontend) • Comfort operating production systems — debugging, on-call mindset, reading dashboards Nice to have • Apache Kafka and Apache Flink (or Kinesis, Spark Streaming, etc.) • Kubernetes — Helm, ingress, secrets, HPA, rollout strategies • Building or maintaining an agent harness / LLM orchestration layer (tools, memory, guardrails) • Text-to-SQL, RAG pipelines, or analytics query layers • Prometheus + Grafana; Metabase or similar BI; log aggregation (Loki, ELK, CloudWatch) • Go + Next.js full-stack collaboration patterns Tech stack you'll touch Go · PostgreSQL · Redis · Kafka · Flink · Kubernetes · Prometheus · Grafana · Metabase · Agent • harness · LLM APIs How we hire Intro call (30 min).Founder call: the market and what you've closed.Assessment.References & offer.
