Software Engineer I This is a 14 month fixed-term position providing parental leave cover. (potential to be extended to 18 months) As a Software Engineer in the Technical Operations' Systems Engineering & Integration team, you will help build and integrate web applications, APIs and infrastructure services used by our internal customers, engineering teams and operational partners. Our team works across frontend, backend and infrastructure systems. We develop new capabilities, connect existing platforms and create cohesive user experiences for complex infrastructure and operational workflows. You do not need to be experienced across the entire technology stack. Your primary experience can be in one of the following areas: Frontend engineeringBackend engineeringDevOps, platform or infrastructure engineering You will have opportunities to develop your skills in the other areas while contributing to services and applications from initial design through implementation, integration and production release. Main duties Implement and deliver features and customer requirements from concept through production releaseDevelop or integrate frontend applications, backend services, APIs or infrastructure componentsWork with engineers and stakeholders across infrastructure, networking, platform and product teamsImprove the reliability, maintainability and operational readiness of our servicesInvestigate and prioritize bugs, technical issues and integration problemsWrite unit and integration testsCommunicate progress, estimates, risks and impediments clearlyContribute to technical documentation and share knowledge with the engineering teamCollaborate with UX designers, software engineers, architects and platform teamsLearn from experienced team members and contribute to technical discussions and engineering practices Requirements A degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experienceSome professional, academic or personal experience developing software, web applications, services or infrastructureExperience in at least one of the following areas:TypeScript, JavaScript or frontend developmentGo or another backend programming languageDevOps, cloud, platform or infrastructure engineeringA basic understanding of software development practicesExperience working in an agile and collaborative development environmentGood communication and documentation skillsA reliable and accountable approach to delivering workComfortable collaborating with people from different technical and professional backgroundsWillingness to learn and develop skills across different areas of software and systems engineeringBasic knowledge of Linux and command-line tools Desirable Skills Any of the following would be beneficial, but candidates are not expected to have experience in all of them: Experience integrating frontend and backend systemsExperience with HTTP, REST APIs, JSON or GraphQLExperience with React or another modern frontend frameworkExperience with Docker, Kubernetes or cloud infrastructureExperience with CI/CD or infrastructure as codeExperience developing or supporting customer portals, developer portals, self-service applications or ticketing systemsExperience with relational or NoSQL databases We welcome candidates with different backgrounds, experiences and career paths.
