Summary
Develop fast, reliable user interfaces for business software while collaborating with backend engineers and contributing across the full development lifecycle.
Highlights
Build modern user interfaces, collaborate with cross-functional product teams, and gain exposure to backend engineering.
Description
Pentana Solutions has been powering the Australian automotive industry for over 50 years.
We're continuing to invest significantly in our product, further enhancing our existing platform with a modern AI-led approach.
Around 1 in 3 of our staff use internal AI tools every business day.
The work is real, the customers are demanding, and we're hiring.
The opportunity:
You'll join a product squad and lean into the front end of automotive software used every day by real dealerships.
You'll build in HTMX, working closely with backend engineers, and your focus is the experience the user actually touches, speed, clarity, and interfaces that hold up under real, demanding use.
This isn't a design role, it's an engineering one.
You care about how it's built as much as how it looks.
And while the front end is where you'll go deepest, we're not boxing you in, you'll cross into the back end when the squad needs it, and you don't need to arrive already knowing it.
Why this role exists right now:
We're building at pace across multiple streams, and the front end is where customers feel the quality of everything else.
We need engineers who go deep on the UI layer rather than treating it as an afterthought to backend work.
You'll work inside a squad alongside a product manager, BA, QA and your squad lead, and while backend engineers will typically own the API layer, everyone in the squad pitches in across the stack when it's needed.
What you'll bring:
• Strong front-end engineering, HTMX or a comparable modern approach, with real hands-on experience behind it.
• A genuine eye for UI quality, interaction detail, performance and accessibility, not just wiring up whatever a design file says.
• AI-native ways of working.
You build with AI, prompt it well, and use it to move faster and troubleshoot.
If you'd rather write everything from scratch by hand, this isn't the place.
• Comfortable working closely with backend engineers on API contracts, and clear about what you need from them to build well.
• Enthusiasm to jump in beyond your specialism when the squad needs it.
You don't need existing back-end depth, that's something you'll pick up here, we just need the willingness.
• Azure experience, or the ability to ramp quickly, is a plus.
What to expect:
Two things to know going in.
First, we build with AI, scaffolding and troubleshooting with it as standard.
Second, this is build, build, build against fixed timelines on a two-year programme.
Once scope is set, it's full steam ahead.
There's room to suggest a better way, but not to explore for months for its own sake.
What's in it for you:
• Pace.
You'll work on one of the most significant transformation programmes in Australian automotive software, and it's already shipping.
• Meaningful work.
The interface you build sits in front of real customers, for years after you leave.
• A clear lane to ship.
No exec gatekeeping, no two-week approval cycles.
• Room to grow.
Strong performers here pick up new areas fast, and there may be opportunities beyond the programme for the right people.
We're all about celebrating diversity and creating an inclusive, respectful team.
We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, including Indigenous Australians, people of colour, LGBTIQA+, and those with disabilities.
If you obsess over how something feels to use, not just how it looks, we should talk.
