Senior Software Developer (Laravel)

About the roleWe're looking for a Senior Software Developer to help build and evolve modern web applications using Laravel and Vue.js. While this is our primary stack, we're open to experienced backend engineers from other modern PHP frameworks (such as Symfony) who are excited to learn Laravel. More than specific framework experience, we're looking for someone with strong engineering judgement. Someone who collaborates well, shares knowledge, gives and receives feedback, and understands that good software is built by balancing trade-offs. Sometimes the right solution is the technically elegant one; other times it's the one that's most consistent, maintainable, or delivers the greatest value to the client. We're looking for someone who can make those decisions thoughtfully. This role is primarily based from our Abbotsford (Melbourne) office. Our engineering team is distributed across Australia and internationally, but this role works closely with our Melbourne-based leadership team and local developers. We offer flexibility where it makes sense, but we're looking for someone who enjoys being part of the office and contributing to the team culture. What you'll be doingDesigning, building and maintaining applications using Laravel and Vue.js.Developing and consuming RESTful APIs and third-party integrations.Working across multiple client projects and becoming productive in existing codebases.Collaborating with designers, product managers and fellow developers to deliver high-quality software.Participating in technical design discussions and contributing ideas.Reviewing code and providing thoughtful, constructive feedback.Sharing knowledge and supporting less experienced developers where appropriate.Troubleshooting production issues and improving application reliability, performance and maintainability. What we're looking forEssentialStrong commercial experience building backend applications with Laravel or another modern PHP framework such as Symfony.Excellent knowledge of PHP and modern software engineering practices.Experience designing and building RESTful APIs.Strong SQL and relational database skills.Experience working with Git and collaborative development workflows.Experience writing automated tests and producing clean, maintainable code.Experience with Vue.js or another modern frontend framework (such as React, Angular or Svelte), or a willingness to quickly become productive in Vue.Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team.A willingness to learn, adapt and work across different products and domains. Nice to haveExperience with TypeScript.Experience with queues, caching and asynchronous processing.Experience working with AWS or other cloud platforms.Experience with CI/CD pipelines and modern deployment practices.Experience working in an agency or consultancy environment.
