Description

About The Team Tapestry is a team within Alphabet working to build the AI-powered electric grid. We are tackling one of the world’s most important infrastructure challenges: helping the energy system become more visible, understandable, reliable, affordable, abundant, and clean. Originally born at X, Alphabet’s moonshot factory, Tapestry brings together experts in energy, AI, software, engineering, and product to build tools that help the electricity ecosystem plan smarter, move faster, and operate more efficiently. This is a global effort. Tapestry supports partners across the U.S., U.K., Chile, New Zealand, Australia, and Brazil as they work toward a cleaner, more resilient energy future. Joining Tapestry means doing high-impact work with a multidisciplinary team tackling a problem that matters at global scale. Learn more about our team and our mission here. About The Role As a Senior Frontend Engineer, you will own the development of intuitive, high-performance web applications that make the invisible complexity of the electric grid visible. You will be the primary driver for key product features, collaborating deeply with UX designers and AI researchers to turn sophisticated energy models into seamless interactive experiences.. How You Will Make 10X Impact Own the end-to-end implementation of sophisticated frontend modules, ensuring they are robust, accessible, and performant.Design and implement production-level software that renders massive geospatial and time-series datasets into actionable insights for global energy partners.Champion code quality by leading rigorous code reviews and driving the adoption of modern frontend standards and testing patterns.Partner with Product and AI teams to build high-fidelity prototypes that test the feasibility of "moonshot" ideas in the energy domain.Contribute to and maintain our shared Design Systems and component libraries to ensure UI consistency across multiple internal and external applications.Act as the technical point of contact for UX and Product, translating design requirements into scalable technical architectures. What You Should Have 5+ years of experience building and scaling sophisticated web applications in a production environment.Mastery of TypeScript and at least one modern framework (React or Angular), with a deep understanding of state management and asynchronous patterns.A high bar for UI/UX polish and "pixel-perfect" implementation, with the ability to navigate tools like Figma or Adobe XD with ease.Experience designing reusable component libraries and managing complex build pipelines (e.g., Webpack, Vite, or Nx).Strong experience with automated testing frameworks (Jest, Vitest, Cypress, or Playwright) to ensure the reliability of mission-critical tools. The ability to break down vague product requirements into structured technical tasks with clear milestones. It’d Be Great If You Also Had These Experience with D3.js, Mapbox, Deck.gl, or WebGL for visualizing complex spatial data.Knowledge of browser rendering engines and the ability to profile and optimize "janky" interactions in data-heavy apps.Experience working in high-growth or "zero-to-one" environments where rapid iteration is key.
