Profile: Legal Counsel: Commercial (EU)
We are looking for a person who has a keen eye for detail and the ambition to hone their skills at practicing law while keeping the bigger business context in mind.

The Legal Counsel, Commercial (EU) will be relied upon by the Senior Legal Counsel and Senior Legal Director responsible for the EU to manage the end to end flow commercial negotiations with key partners of the B2B business.
You will work directly alongside internal business stakeholders and clients, drawing upon your legal knowledge, business acumen and excellent drafting and organizational skills to provide on-the-ground support and identify potential legal issues, ultimately helping to achieve the functional business objectives.
You will have the unique experience of working across multiple products and verticals and the opportunity to advise on key projects to enhance collaboration between all brands within the Booking Holdings Inc.
group.
The cross-product and cross-brand aspect of your role will give you the opportunity to expand your stakeholder group and zone of influence, ultimately providing you with a stage for maximum impact.
You will provide impactful analysis and advice on legal questions needed to unlock challenges and move commercial agreements forward.
You will spend time drafting and negotiating agreements, and managing the process from inception through to signature.
Key responsibilities:
Liaising directly with business units as a reliable and commercially minded first point of contact within legal for specific projects and business stakeholders.
Drafting and negotiating clear and commercially appropriate legal agreements with strategic partners, within agreed parameters and guidelines
Continually review and assess our precedents and guidelines to ensure that we are being innovative and bold, whilst recognising the agreed risk appetite
Be well structured, clear and organised, with an ability to prioritise and drive progress within a very fast paced environment
Demonstrate a collaborative approach to getting the job done, drawing on technical specialist support from other members of the Legal team and with a range of stakeholders both within the business and externally
Research new legal and commercial topics and confidentially turn research into pragmatic legal advice and actions
Create and present guidance documents and training materials, including playbooks, for teams within the business under the direction of the members of the Legal team.
Support with the creation and implementation of efficient and scalable ways of working to enable sustainable business growth, including the implementation and fine-tuning of legal tech solutions (such as our eContracting tools).
Support and provide legal input on new commercial constructs and business funnels (e.g.
commission tiers, uplift/margin models, rebates, cross‑brand supply and ads for various channels such as WL, API and App) and work with finance, tax and accounting to design defensible frameworks and documentation.
Work with the EU legal team to support B2B litigation management, employment matters within the EU, dispute resolution, and risk mitigation strategies, including horizon scanning, for the EU.
Ensure compliance in a dynamic regulatory landscape (inc.
DMA/ DSA and EU Commission engagement), keeping the division ahead of the curve on emerging laws and policies.
Skills and experience required:
Approx.
3-5 years practicing law, with a mix of in-house and big firm experience preferred.
Law degree from a top law school, and excellent academic credentials.
Holds a practicing certification in good standing enabling the provision of legal services as described in this job description.
Excellent drafting skills and attention to detail
Strong organisational and project management skills and ability to meet deadlines, prioritising appropriately
The ability to demonstrate commercial awareness and understanding of the business requirements and a keen desire to deepen these skills
Excellent drafting skills in English (native level) and the confidence and ability to negotiate independently within agreed parameters and guidelines, asking for help from the Senior Legal Counsel when needed
Confidence in your ability to provide assistance to the legal team and business units combined with a professional and collaborative approach
A high standard of knowledge and use of Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and Google Suite (Google Sheets, Google Docs)
Fluency in English; an excellent level of both written and verbal communication skills
Understanding of competition law, platform and marketing regulation, data/privacy and consumer protection, with a track record of turning external counsel advice and regulatory developments into practical internal frameworks and playbooks.
Experience supporting high value commercial and corporate matters for a global online marketplace or travel/e-commerce platform is highly preferred.
