Senior Back End Engineer

A fast-growing, VC-backed PropTech business is hiring a Senior Back End Engineer to help build the technology powering its next phase of growth. This isn't a SaaS role. You'll be joining a business using AI to transform a traditional industry through acquisition, automation and modern software engineering. Role: Senior Back End Engineer Salary: Up to £100,000 + 10% bonus + equity Location: London (Moorgate), hybrid working - 2 to 3 days per week onsite What you'll be doing Design, develop and maintain scalable APIs using Python and FastAPI.Take ownership of services throughout their full lifecycle, from architecture through to production support.Work closely with Product and Engineering teams to deliver high-impact features at pace.Drive adoption of AI-assisted engineering workflows to improve developer productivity.Champion engineering quality through testing, automation and modern software development practices.Contribute to architectural decisions as the platform continues to scale.Play a key role in shaping engineering culture, with a clear pathway into technical leadership. What you'll need Strong commercial experience building production backend services with Python and FastAPI.Experience working within fast-growth startups or scale-ups, ideally through Series A or Series B growth.A track record of owning significant areas of a product and delivering features end to end.Experience working within high-performance engineering teams that value speed, ownership and quality.Actively use AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor or similar as part of your day-to-day development workflow.Passion for improving engineering productivity through automation, tooling and agentic development practices.Strong understanding of API design, asynchronous Python and backend architecture.Experience working with SQL databases and modern data persistence layers.Ownership mindset with responsibility for testing, quality and production reliability.Interest in progressing into a Lead Engineer role as the engineering team continues to grow.
