Backend Engineer

This is a 12 months fixed-term contract role. What will you do? Responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the server-side logic, databases, and APIs that power COMPASS platform, ensuring reliability, performance, and security:Design and develop scalable, maintainable, and secure backend services, APIs and integration componentsDesign and implement scalable microservices and distributed systemsIntegrate with upstream and downstream systems, devices, and data sourcesManage and optimize relational and non-relational databases, including schema design, query optimisation, and data integrityDevelop data processing, transformation, and analytics servicesImplement application monitoring, logging, and observability features to support system reliability and operational troubleshootingTroubleshoot and resolve application and integration issues to ensure service reliability and performanceWork closely with frontend engineers, data teams, and business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver technical solutionsImplement authentication, authorization, and other security best practices in backend systemsSupport testing, deployment, and production operations activitiesWrite clean, well-documented, and testable code, and participate in peer code reviewsMaintain technical documentation and system design artefactsParticipate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectivesCollaborate effectively with team members to deliver solutions and support knowledge sharing across the project team Requirements Experience in backend software development and building enterprise-grade applicationsStrong programming proficiency in at least one of:PythonNode.jsJavaExperience designing and developing RESTful APIs and microservices, and backend integration servicesExperience with relational and NoSQL databases, including query optimization, and data integrity managementExperience working with message queues, event-driven architectures, and system integrationKnowledge of software design patterns, enterprise application architecture, and secure coding practicesExperience developing and deploying cloud-native application on AWSFamiliarity with containerization technologies such as Docker and KubernetesExperience with GitLab, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile software development practicesStrong debugging, troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills Benefits What do we offer in return?
