Job Title: Senior Software Developer (Java | Spring Boot) Location: Auckland or Wellington, New Zealand Employment Type: Contract Experience: 6–10 Years About the Role We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Developer with strong expertise in Java and Spring Boot to design, develop, and support scalable enterprise applications. The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in backend development, modern software architecture, and cloud-native application development, with a passion for delivering secure, reliable, and high-quality software solutions. Working within a collaborative Agile environment, you will contribute to the full software development lifecycle, partnering with architects, product owners, developers, and business stakeholders to build innovative digital solutions that meet business and customer needs. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, test, and maintain enterprise applications using Java and Spring Boot.Develop scalable RESTful APIs and Microservices that align with modern software architecture principles.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyse business requirements and deliver high-quality technical solutions.Contribute to solution design, technical discussions, code reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.Develop efficient and reliable data access solutions using relational databases and ORM frameworks.Build secure, scalable, and maintainable applications following engineering best practices.Troubleshoot, optimise, and enhance application performance, reliability, and scalability.Support CI/CD practices, cloud-native deployments, and automation initiatives where required.Ensure software quality through testing, debugging, and adherence to coding standards.Contribute to Agile ceremonies and work effectively within collaborative delivery teams. Required Skills & Experience 6–10 years of hands-on software development experience with strong expertise in Java and Spring Boot.Proven experience designing and developing enterprise applications using RESTful APIs and Microservices architecture.Strong understanding of software engineering principles, object-oriented design, and modern application architecture.Experience working with relational databases, SQL, and ORM frameworks such as JPA/Hibernate.Ability to develop scalable, secure, and maintainable software solutions with a focus on quality, performance, and reliability.Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and business teams.Experience working within Agile software delivery environments.Exposure to AWS cloud services and cloud-native application development is desirable.Experience with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, or container platforms such as OpenShift or Kubernetes is advantageous.Exposure to React.js, JavaScript/TypeScript, or scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell is beneficial. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline.Experience working on large-scale enterprise or cloud transformation programmes.A continuous learning mindset with a passion for modern software engineering practices.
