Senior Backend Software Engineer - C# / .NET / Azure Location: Cork Working Model: Hybrid, 1 day per week onsite Employment Type: Permanent Salary: 90-100k + Benefits The Role We are looking for a Senior Backend Software Engineer to join an experienced cross-functional engineering team developing a new SaaS product. You will be responsible for the design, development and ongoing evolution of backend services within a distributed, event-driven platform. This is a hands-on position where you will contribute to core product functionality, influence technical decisions and help ensure the platform is scalable, reliable and maintainable. You will work closely with frontend engineers, DevOps, product and other backend developers throughout the full software development lifecycle. Key Responsibilities Design, develop and maintain backend services using C# and .NET.Build and evolve components within a distributed, event-driven architecture.Develop core functionality for a multi-tenant SaaS platform.Contribute to domain modelling, RESTful API design and service boundaries.Maintain data integrity and consistency across distributed services.Improve system performance, reliability and scalability.Work with SQL Server, Azure SQL, MongoDB and Elasticsearch.Collaborate with frontend, DevOps and product teams to shape technical solutions.Participate in technical discussions, architecture reviews and code reviews.Support modern development practices including automated testing, CI/CD and containerised deployments.Take ownership of solutions from design through to production support.Help define and improve engineering standards across the team. Required Experience Strong commercial experience developing backend applications using C# and .NET.Experience with modern backend development practices.Strong understanding of SQL Server and relational database design.Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs.Experience building distributed or event-driven systems.Knowledge of messaging patterns, CQRS, actor models or similar architectural approaches.Strong understanding of data integrity, performance tuning and system reliability.Experience working in CI/CD and containerised environments.Ability to communicate technical decisions and explain engineering trade-offs.Experience working as part of a cross-functional software engineering team. Desirable Experience MongoDB or Elasticsearch.Azure SQL and other Azure platform services.Event sourcing.Akka.NET or another actor-based framework.Domain-driven design.Multi-tenant or distributed SaaS platforms.Data isolation, sharding or partitioning strategies.AI-assisted software development tools and workflows.
