Job Description ByteFederal Australia is seeking a talented Senior/Lead Full Stack Software Engineer to join our Sydney team on a full-time, in-office basis and lead the technical build-out of our digital asset payment, wallet, and infrastructure solutions for the Australian & Global market. You will set the technical direction locally, own delivery end-to-end, and work closely with both our local team and our global technology partners. This is a founding, high-autonomy role with a direct line to the product and its architecture, and with long-term growth incentives tied to the success of the Australian build-out. About Us ByteFederal Australia (BFA) is a leading fintech innovator transforming how consumers buy, invest, and transact in the digital asset economy. Operating as Australia's emerging Digital Asset Financial Services Group, BFA Group spans an integrated ecosystem covering crypto infrastructure and payments, private digital asset investment advisory, and real-world asset tokenisation. The Role • Extending and customising our web and mobile platforms for the Australian market • Building and maintaining backend integrations for local payment systems, banking rails, and cryptocurrency infrastructure rails. • Integrating Bitcoin Lightning and on-chain settlement into payment and wallet flows • Consuming real-time transaction and device telemetry to drive monitoring, reconciliation, and customer-facing features • Designing and building internal dashboards and reporting tools for operational, transaction, and compliance visibility • Collaborating with our global development team on core platform improvements • Implementing Australia-specific features and compliance requirements • Contributing to our technology roadmap for the APAC region How We Work — AI-Augmented, Secure by Default • You use AI coding tools (e.g. Claude Code, Copilot, Cursor) as a daily part of your workflow to design, write, review, and test code faster • You understand safe and secure software engineering principles • You understand what an ISO 27001-aligned SDLC requires — secrets management, least-privilege access, data classification, and change control — and can operate comfortably within it Required Skills & Experience • Strong proficiency in PHP (Laravel 10/11/12); plus Python and Node.js • Web application development and design/consumption of RESTful APIs • Mobile application development (React Native, Flutter, or native) • Ability to design and build dashboards and reporting/analytics interfaces for operational, financial, or compliance data • Solid understanding of cryptocurrency and blockchain technology, including Bitcoin • Background in financial technology or payment systems • Secure-by-default engineering: OWASP awareness, secrets/key handling, least-privilege, and comfort operating under formal security controls (ISO 27001 or equivalent) in a custodial/payments environment • Data stores: MySQL (primary relational), Redis (caching/queues); document-store experience (e.g. MongoDB) a plus • Automated testing and test-first discipline • Excellent problem-solving and architectural design skills • Strong communication and team-collaboration skills; able to work independently across time zones with a global team Preferred Qualifications • Bitcoin Lightning experience (LND or similar): invoices, channels/liquidity, on-chain vs off-chain settlement • Digital wallet / custody experience: HD wallets, hot/cold key segregation, key-management concepts • Payment gateway engineering: webhook and idempotency design, reconciliation, PCI-DSS awareness • Cryptocurrency ATM/kiosk or connected-device integration • Experience with BI/dashboarding tools or libraries (e.g. Grafana, Metabase, Chart.js, Recharts, Power BI) • Knowledge of Australian financial regulations — AUSTRAC (DCE registration), AML/CTF, and the Privacy Act • CI/CD, containerisation (Docker), and cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP/Cloudflare); observability and production on-call ownership • Previous work with cryptocurrency payment solutions What We Offer • Direct impact on product development and technical decisions across the APAC roadmap • Additional long-term growth incentives tied to the success and scale of the Australian • Professional development opportunities in the digital asset and Web3 space How to Apply Recommend LinkedIn Easy Apply with resume required.
