Senior Java Software Engineer

We are working with a well-established technology consultancy that delivers complex software solutions within the financial services sector. Due to continued growth, they are looking to add a Senior Backend Engineer to their team. This is an opportunity to work on modern, high-scale platforms alongside experienced engineers, contributing to both new development and the ongoing enhancement of existing systems. The ideal candidate will have strong commercial experience with Java, Spring Boot and Kafka, as well as a genuine interest in building reliable, scalable and well-engineered solutions. The organisation offers a collaborative environment, varied technical challenges and the opportunity to work on projects with significant business impact. What You’ll Focus On: • Designing and delivering backend services in Java with Spring Boot • Building and operating event-driven flows with strong exposure to Apache Kafka (or similar messaging platforms) • Working within a microservice architecture and evolving legacy boundaries where needed • Writing highly available, secure, maintainable code with solid test coverage • Partnering with product, architecture, and delivery stakeholders on complex programmes • Mentoring engineers and contributing to code review and engineering standards Core Experience We’re Looking: • Java (8+) with deep practical strength in modern backend development • Spring Boot used in production services (not just tutorials) • Kafka or comparable messaging / streaming platforms in real systems • Strong OOP fundamentals, collections, concurrency, and API design (REST) • Comfort across relational and NoSQL data stores; CI/CD and containerised delivery (Docker / Kubernetes) • Agile delivery experience and clear communication with mixed technical audiences • Typically 5+ years relevant professional experience (stronger seniors also welcome) ADVERT DISCLAIMER Research indicates that men will apply to a role when they only meet 50-60% of the descriptions, however, when looking at women and other minority groups, they can look for up to a 99% match in order to apply to a role.
