Software Engineer | Energy Trading Hedge Fund | Sydney $130-$180k+super+ Bonus (Big$) join a boutique energy trading hedge fund in Sydney that's looking to hire a Software Engineer into a genuinely high-impact role. This isn't a large corporate engineering team. You'd be joining as only the second software engineer, working directly alongside traders, analysts and the Head of Technology (a highly regarded UK engineer) to build the software that powers real-time trading across the Australian and New Zealand energy markets. The tech stack isn't the latest shiny framework in every area, but the team is exceptionally smart, pragmatic and genuinely engineering-led. They're looking for someone with around 4-6 years of experience who's technically strong, enjoys solving real business problems and wants plenty of autonomy. The role You'll have end-to-end ownership across a broad range of systems including: C# / .NET / WPF desktop applications used by traders throughout the dayBackend services, APIs and Azure data pipelinesSQL development across business-critical market databasesDashboards, reporting and market analyticsIntegrations with market data feeds and pricing systemsAI-assisted workflows using LLMs, agents and MCP servers to automate operational and research tasks This is a business-facing engineering role where you'll work directly with the people using the software every day.
