Platform Engineer

Hi, Greetings! Role : Platform Engineer - Software Location : Preference Greater Toronto Area OR Remote ( Canada – EST) • Strong software engineering background (this is a software engineer role, not a rebranded DevOps role). • Front-end development with React and TypeScript. • Back-end API development in TypeScript (Node.js ecosystem). • Experience building on cloud platforms — Azure preferred (AKS, containerized workloads). • AI-assisted, spec-driven development and context engineering as a core working practice — this is a minimum bar; candidates who cannot leverage AI tooling effectively will not ship fast enough. • Strong sense of product and user experience for developer-facing tools. • Strong mentorship and collaboration skills. • Design and build front-end experiences (React, TypeScript) for the internal developer platform, with an emphasis on dynamic, automated UI generation over manual, static screens. • Develop back-end APIs and services, primarily in TypeScript, running containerized on Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS). • Build and extend plugins for Backstage (Spotify's developer portal framework). • Create MCP (Model Context Protocol) integrations and automation flows that power self-service provisioning. • Contribute to orchestration and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, GitHub Actions) where use cases require it — noting the team already has deep Terraform expertise, so this is a secondary aspect of the role. • Integrate platform services with application data layers (standard service-owned databases as part of full-stack development; no data science work). • Champion user experience: treat internal developers as customers and make platform services as lightweight and frictionless as possible. • Mentor and raise the bar: actively look for opportunities to strengthen software engineering practices within the team, even within a contract engagement
