Description
Platform Engineer
GCP / AWS | Docker & Kubernetes | Terraform | Linux
Stockport – Hybrid working (2 days per week onsite)
Up to £70,000 + £10,000 On-Call Allowance + Benefits
A tech company in Stockport is looking for an experienced Platform Engineer to join their team.
They’ve recently completed a large-scale migration from their traditional data centre into Google Cloud Platform and are now looking for someone to help them improve, maintain and develop their cloud infrastructure.
You’ll be joining a small and experienced Platform team, working closely with their Software Engineers to make sure their systems are secure, reliable and performing well.
This is a genuinely hands-on role, with a good mixture of modern cloud technologies alongside traditional infrastructure and troubleshooting.
They’re not looking for someone to come in and architect an entirely new cloud platform from scratch.
The migration to GCP has already happened, so the focus now is on incremental improvements – improving automation, monitoring and reliability, refactoring where necessary and making the platform easier for their development teams to work with.
They work with a modern infrastructure stack including GCP, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, FluxCD and GitHub, alongside a predominantly Linux-based environment.
You’ll ideally have experience with most of the following:
Strong Linux infrastructure and troubleshooting skillsDocker and containerised environmentsKubernetesTerraform / Infrastructure as CodeMonitoring, logging and troubleshooting production systemsCloud platforms – ideally GCP or AWSCI/CD and deployment tooling
Previous GCP experience would obviously be useful, but it isn't essential.
They’re very open to someone coming from a strong AWS background who understands cloud infrastructure and has solid experience with Docker, Kubernetes and Terraform.
More than anything, they’re looking for someone who understands the technologies they work with rather than simply having exposure to them.
You should enjoy troubleshooting problems, digging through logs and understanding why something isn't working.
The company has a really good culture and people tend to stick around for a long time.
They’re independently owned, have a relatively small technology team and have created a collaborative environment where the Platform and Software teams work closely together.
They’ve also recently purchased their own office in central Stockport, which is currently being renovated into a new purpose-built space for the team.
They support hybrid working, with everyone getting together in the office on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
There is also the opportunity to join their paid on-call rota once you're comfortable with the environment.
This adds around £10,000 per year to the package, alongside additional days off.
In return, they can offer:
Salary up to £70,000Circa £10,000 additional on-call allowance35-hour working weekFlexible working around core hoursHybrid working – 2 days per week in Stockport25 days holiday + bank holidaysAdditional holiday for those participating in on-callMatched pension up to 5%Private healthcare / healthcare cash planRegular team lunches, socials and company events
This would be a great opportunity for an experienced Platform, DevOps, Cloud or Infrastructure Engineer who enjoys being hands-on and wants to work across modern cloud technologies without losing the troubleshooting and infrastructure side of the job.
